Les Bibittes (2024)

I began shooting macro photography in September of 2024, as part of a general interest in ento-hobbyism (the leisurely, non-academic study of insects). Macro photography presented a new technical challenge for me and provided me with ample opportunities to take in my surroundings.

At magnification between 1.0x-2.0x, depth of field is so thin that even one's heartbeat can set off an image's focal point. Macro photography is a form of meditation for me -- A way to focus relaxing my pulse and breathing while leaning into these natural movements of my body at rest.

My setup is comprised of a cropped sensor (APS-C) mirrorless SLR camera, paired with a 2.0x magnification f2.8 manual focus macro lens. Images are shot in RAW format to maximize sensor information, then minimally adjusted to match JPEG colour profiles using Adobe Lightroom. To impact the natural world as little as possible, all subjects are photogradphed live in the wild.
